See the beauty
Since returning from India I have noticed how much ‘energy’ features in my everyday life: in conversations and the way in which I describe my moods, attitudes and thoughts to others; the manner in which I make sense of the behaviour of those around me; the feelings I experience in different places and in the presence of other people. I seem to have developed a heightened awareness of when and how I give and receive energy.
There is an energy that forms the basis of all things. Our perception of this subtle energy starts with an increased awareness of beauty. Whilst there are people, animals, places, forests full of abundance and ocean swells that exude a higher level of energy (and therefore appear more beautiful, more captivating) this subtle energy, this energy, is in all that surrounds us. In the everyday things.
I guess immersing myself within a truly beautiful community, surrounded by an abundance of wildlife, living to the soundtrack of the jungle and the whispers of the Arabic Sea, moving my body and calming my mind in hilltop and beachfront shalas led to this change in my sensitivity to the subtle energy and life latent, yet accessible, on Mother Earth. It was easy to mindful of the beauty in things that emanate energy on a higher, stronger frequency.
Now that I am back in the UK things seem so very different, more challenging. It is often difficult to see the positive forces especially when I wake each morning with obstacles that didn’t exist whilst I was away.

I have long believed that the responsibility for our own health lies at our own front door and so whilst I could moan and grumble about the weather; the lack of sunshine; Brexit; the unfolding of the unfathomable in US politics; my longing to live a life outdoors connected to nature, yet my disinterest in venturing out into the grey, bitterly cold world outside my window; how I miss my ‘tribe’ of like-minded, travelling, inspiring souls etc. all this does in drag my own energy levels and those around me slowly back down towards to the depths of depression.
And so as of today I shall be working on changing unhealthy attitudes that have re-emerged since returning home. Whilst I may not currently reside next to the ocean, within the jungle or conduct my life under the warm, golden rays of a winter sun, I challenge both myself and you to see the beauty in the simple, everyday things that surround us.
I find that by keeping a daily gratitude journal (I used the five minute journal to form my gratitude habit but any old note book will do), which requires noting at least three things for which I feel grateful for each morning, increases my ability to see the beauty that graces my life wherever I am in the world.
By acknowledging and fully appreciating each thing for which I feel grateful I have a heightened ability to see the beauty in everyday things. I increase my own energy frequency making myself feel happier, more positive and content with all that I already have and also hopefully help to raise the subtle energy levels of those in my company.
Today I see beauty in… how my two dogs seemed so happy to see me when I walked down the stairs to greet them this morning. I see beauty in the naked silver birch that stands alone at the bottom of my garden and how she not only survives but has the ability to captivate through each season. I see beauty in possibility… I recently acquired a retro sideboard and have grand plans of giving her a new life and turning her into something even more beautiful (for now Mr G has agreed to help with the sanding for which my hands are also very grateful!)
